Video

Overall the video making process was very smooth and fun! My kids loved it and I enjoyed it as well. A few things I found out and will change next time I make a video using iMovie with my class. (which is so awesome and easy to use)First off, I need to remember to leave more room in the frame above the person I am filming. iMovie is a wider screen and in several shots, I cut the head off the person I was shooting or it was partially cut off. Another tip when working with young students... during every rehearsal and practice run, they were so full of energy and really had their personalities shining through, but all of the sudden when the camera was really running, they got shy and forgot some of the stuff they wanted to say. We could have kept re shooting until it was perfect or they felt more comfortable, but I knew this was more realistic. We do not have all the time in the world to make it perfect in class, so I would really coach the kids to ignore the camera and not worry about what they look like. Just have fun! When editing, don't get frustrated with making it just perfect. I had to realize that my degree was not in film and I am a complete amateaur, so just relax and know that it will get better every time I use the program.
I thought the overall learning from the activity was far greater than any assessment I could give them. I saw their full understanding of economics and the students will always remember their role in making the film.
I am already thinking of ways to incorporate movies into my classroom more. I think it will be a great tool at Meet the Teacher night. I could have the kids explain most of the stuff I usually ramble on about. The kids and the parents would love this!
