Future Classroom

What do I see when I think about my future classroom? They way things change so fast from year to year and new technologies are introduced every day, I am not sure what I will see in five or even one year. Technology has changed so much since I first began teaching six years ago that I am excited to see where things will go.
My goals are to keep up to date with technology myself and to try to teach and infuse as much technology into my teaching as I can. I want to seamlessly integrate technology projects into my classroom, but first I need for my second graders to become more comfortable using computers. Yes, they know SO much more about technology than I did at their age and they use it so effortlessly that I amazed, but they still lack typing skills and basic computer knowledge. They do not know how to trouble shoot or try to figure out problems on their own. I want them to be independent of me and not have to come to me for every computer problem they encounter. In order for this to happen, students need to be on the computers more and practice, practice, practice. I know they can use any iPod, iTouch, game station, and phone, but they need to know how to navigate on a computer. Once second graders start coming into my classroom with this knowledge, watch out! The classroom is going to look so different. There will not be only five student computers in my classroom, but 22 laptops. Students will complete all their projects online and using computer programs. Students will be able to communicate with each other and global classrooms daily. I think there will be more distance learning and maybe less classroom meeting times.
A future classroom could completely change what we know and think about teaching. It could radically change the profession and the learning of children. I am excited to see what is to come and hope that I am always ready for the new challenges that are ahead. Not only do I plan on teaching them to my students, but my future children as well! Scary!
