Photostory #17

Photostory is one of those technology projects that I have seen on my computer launcher page and always thought I want to try that, but never have. I have finally been inspired to try it by one of my coworkers who used it with her students for a project we just did. She used photostory during our Animal unit to create a small movie about each animal that every student had chosen.
Students had to research their animal and take copious notes about the animals habitat, description, diet, class, and give several interesting facts about the animal.  Students used kid friendly websites, books, and encyclopedias to find their information. They students then had to write a paragraph about their animal using the notes they had taken. They practiced reading their paragraph once it was complete and then recorded the 30 second sound clip as part of the photostory. While the students voice was playing, there would be several pictures that they found and uploaded of their animals going through like a slide show. My favorite part of the project was that they created their own picture in Pixie of their animal and used it as the cover of the  presentation.
I am inspired to try this with my students. In the spring we do a little research on an American Hero and I was thinking I could do something similar with Photostory during this unit. I know the kids would enjoy it and enjoy sharing their final project with the class and parents.
