For example, I am definitely a musical/rhythmic learner. The things I remember most from my youth were the songs, chants, and rhymes I learned. I am also a visual/spacial learner. I remember pictures and and lectures that have PP presentations or something like it to go with it. I can usually link information to pictures in my brain. I am also a kinesthetic learner and like to move when I am learning. I like to make things with my hands and work with manipulatives.
I like to reach all the intelligences when I teach, but it can be hard to think of how to do it with each lesson. Everyday I use visual/spacial learning with my whiteboard and use of flipcharts. I also encourage my students to think logical and mathematical thinking. I feel like the math program I use, Investigation, also fosters learning. I also usually play music in my classroom. I love Pandora radio and play classical music all the time.
My lesson plan entails several of the multiple intelligences. The students will be using their verbal/linguistic skills, musical/rhythmic, and visual/spacial. The objectives are:
- create a blog to communicate with peers
- collaborate with peers
- write a reading response
Intelligence and possible technologies to use with them:
Intelligence technology
verbal/linguistic textbook, pencil, worksheet
logical/mathematical unifix cubes, spreadsheets
visual/spacial whiteboard, talking books
bodily/kinesthetic AT, simulations that require eye-hand coordination
musical/rythmic poem, songs, chants
Intrapersonal Journals, diaries
Interpersonal class discussions, collaborative projects
Naturalist microscope and telescope
Existentialist planeterium, virtual communities
