I really liked this lesson where students first brainstorm a list of special people in their life and then choose one to write about. I like the way the teacher added and word processing aspect to this lesson. The title of this lesson jumped out to me because I do something very similar in my classroom, but I do not take the last step of scanning in a picture of that special person or place and then typing their final draft. I would love to do this in my classroom, but I need to wait until my students typing skills are more proficient. I know if I started now, it would take too long to type and the students would not enjoy the lesson as much. I do think that they would love attaching a photo of their special person and then making a class book of each of their papers.
Multiplication using Kid Pix (math)
In this lesson, students can work together or alone to create a pictorial model of a multiplication problem. I think this would be a wonderful closure activity to use with my students after I teach the process of multiplication. They love using Kid Pix or Pixie and I love the idea of integrating math with it. I also like how she attached student work with the lesson. It was a good visual for me to see and I could also use this in my classroom to show the students my expectations.
The Study of Great Americans (social studies)
Students are expected to choose one great American figure and write a research report using three different resources: book, encylopedia, and Internet. At the end of the research and writing process, the students will share their report by dressing up as their famous American or making a puppet. In my classroom, I might give a little more choice as to how they would share since some students are not comfortable speaking. I might allow students to make a Power Poing or write a three paragraphy report. Students could still dress as their American figure, but have a Power Point to share.
